-スバシタ・サングラハ 第21巻 「献身者の解放」より
人間は獣性と神性の入り混じった状態に相当します。それは、水と陸地とのはざ間の様です。つまり、一方の側には陸地が、もう一方の側には水域が広がるのです。人生の道程は、この２つのはざ間を貫くおぼろげな中心線に沿って伸びているのです。この不安定でおぼつかない線上に立つと、ほとんどの人間は、獣性の方に心がかしいでしまいます。何故なら人間は、動物としての過去のあらゆる生活の経験を引きずる一方で、神的な生活の経験は一切持たないからです。
人間は、既知の道へと踏み込むことは何ら恐れることはないものの、未知の道へ踏み込もうとするといつもためらって恐れるのです。神的な生活の道は、人間にとって未知なるものです。これまでに神的な生活の経験を一切持たない為に、彼らは、その道を突き進む勇気が湧かないのです。しかし、一旦前進しようと勇気を結集するならば、その道が限りない至福に満ちた素晴らしいものであることを悟るのです。

4. At a stage between water and land
–This is from a discourse by Ba’ba’..with title”The liberation of the devotee”
…”Human beings represent a mixed state of animality and divinity. We can say human beings are like a stage between water and land. That is, on the one side there is land, on the other side there is water. The path of human life extends along the subtle midline between the two.
Standing on this delicate precarious line, most human beings lean towards animality: because human beings carry over the full experience of past animal life. but they do not have the experience of Devine life.
Humans do not fear to tread a known path, but they always hesitate and fear to travel unknown paths. The path of Devine life is unknown to humans. As they have no previous experience of Devine life, they lack courage to move along that path. But once they do gather courage to move forward, they realize the greatness of that path of eternal bliss”.
